Coconut Oil: Buyers Quiet as Prices Slip Slightly
In the Rotterdam market, coconut oil prices have decreased to $2,657.50–$2,777.50 per metric ton CIF, down from the previous week, primarily because buyers have largely been absent. Although there was a slight rebound in prices towards the end of the week, the overall market sentiment remains cautious. The premium of coconut oil over palm kernel oil has narrowed to $874.31 per metric ton, indicating that the earlier price increases may not be sustainable in the near term.
Locally, both crude and RBD (refined, bleached, and deodorised) coconut oil prices also showed a downward trend. Crude coconut oil closed at PHP 145.30–148.50 per kilogram, while RBD oil was priced at PHP 162.05–166.00 per kilogram, reflecting the lack of interest from buyers.
Desiccated Coconut: Marginal Price Recovery
Desiccated coconut has finally broken its eight-week price plateau, rising to a range of 145 to 190 cents per pound, FOB. In contrast, domestic prices in Manila have decreased to PHP 4,961 to 5,146.50 per 100-pound bag. With husk nut prices also increasing.
Currently, we are observing a significant availability of desiccated coconut from Indonesia. In contrast, many shippers from the Philippines are facing challenges, as they are either completely sold out or have a limited supply for 2025.
