Coconut Market Update – 25th August 2025

Global and Philippine Desiccated Coconut Price Landscape

Desiccated coconut export prices from the Philippines have remained notably stable throughout mid-2025, consistently staying within the US $1.45–1.85 per lb FOB range.

The domestic scene mirrors this steadiness: local prices in Manila have fluctuated modestly around ₱5,036 to ₱5,368 per 100-lb bag, showing only slight variation from week to week. In March 2025, a slightly wider FOB export range of US $0.80–1.75 per lb was reported, but by later in the year, markets had stabilised at the narrower, more defined band.

Coconut Oil Prices: Supply Constraints Fuelling a Surge

In stark contrast, coconut oil prices are experiencing upward pressure worldwide. A recent Reuters report highlights that global coconut oil prices have surged to an all-time high of approximately US$2,990 per metric tonne, driven by limited supply due to ageing trees, adverse weather conditions, pest problems, and early harvesting of coconuts for water.

The International Coconut Community expects that prices will remain high, likely staying within the range of US$2,500 to 2,700 per tonne through the second half of 2025. Earlier in May and mid-2025, experts drew attention to CIF Rotterdam coconut oil prices ranging from US $2,460–2,825 per tonne.

A recent update (mid-July 2025) indicates Rotterdam CIF prices around US$2,740 to 2,880 per tonne, reflecting a continued upward trend with a weekly increase of about US$85.80.

Container Shipping: Asia to Rotterdam Rates Trend Lower

Container freight costs, as indicated by the Drewry World Container Index (WCI), as of mid-August 2025, prices were approximately US $2,250 per 40-ft container, marking a 4 % week-on-week decline. The previous week of mid-August recorded a reading of US$2,350, a decrease of about 3 %. In May, the WCI stood at around US $2,076 per container, showing a consistent downward trend from earlier in the year
