Global Coconut Oil Prices Remain Stable Amid Demand Pressures
Coconut oil prices in the Rotterdam market showed modest gains, settling at $1,860-$1,925/MT CIF for positions through May 2025, reflecting a $4.00 increase from the previous week. Despite continued discounts under palm kernel oil, the spread has narrowed further, with average discounts reduced to $45.33/MT compared to $65.33 last week. Tight supply due to typhoon-related disruptions in the Philippines supported this pricing stability.
Crude coconut oil prices climbed further in the domestic Philippine market, reaching P94.00-95.50 per kilo. Refined, bleached, and deodorised (RBD) coconut oil also saw price hikes, closing at P111.00-153.75 per kilo. These price movements highlight sustained strong demand and limited supply in local markets.
Stable Market Prices for Desiccated Coconut in Q4
The international market for desiccated coconut remained steady in November, with export prices holding firm at 80-135¢/lb FOB across major markets, including the USA, Europe, and Asia.
Domestically, Philippine prices for desiccated coconut ranged from P5,292 to P5,586 per 100-lb bag. This slight decline from the previous week’s range reflects localised adjustments in supply.
2025 Market for High Quality Coconut
The dismissal of 3,200 workers on October 3rd, via a Facebook group chat message from the Sta. Cruz plant in Davao, Franklin Baker’s largest production facility, has yet to impact the supply or price of high-quality desiccated coconut in the market. But rumours of the sale or closure have come out of the Philippines, with no verifiable news sources.
This could mean that in 2025, there could be a shortage of the highest-quality desiccated coconut, and prices could be pushed up as the bigger players in the market buy out supplies early, leaving little or no supply.
We do not yet know any definitive facts; this is pure conjecture on our part, but we are concerned there could be supply problems in 2025.
