Rotterdam coconut oil prices closed higher last week, with sellers quoting $2,637.50 to $2,790 per metric ton CIF, depending on the delivery month. Although buyer activity was limited, especially in forward positions, the price premium over palm kernel oil widened significantly, averaging $966.13 per metric ton and peaking above $1,000 for June/July contracts. Domestically, crude coconut oil prices ticked up slightly to PHP 140.50–149.00/kg, while RBD coconut oil saw a slight dip to PHP 156.50–165.50/kg, showing mixed signals in the local market.
Export prices for desiccated coconut remained unchanged at £1.45–£1.90/lb FOB, while local Manila prices rebounded slightly to PHP 5,016–5,295 per 100-lb bag.
The Philippine Coconut Authority (PCA) stated that the coconut scale insect (CSI), also known as “cocolisap,” poses no threat to the coconut industry. The PCA provided this assurance despite the fact that 516,962 coconut trees, which is just 0.15% of the total, have been affected, thanks to government bio-control interventions.
