Update 27th July 2022 – Philippine Earthquake

An earthquake has hit the northern Philippines, in the lightly populated province of Abra, in the very north of Luzon; Abra is a landlocked region known for deep valleys and mountainous terrain.

The quake struck at 8:43 am local time on Wednesday and was measured at a preliminary magnitude of 7.1 by the US Geological Survey.

Reports of localised damage to buildings have come in, but as yet, no loss of life has been reported as of today.

The earthquake was felt in the capital city, Manila, more than 250 miles away, where workers and residents evacuated from buildings and gathered on the street.
